Botswana Blog: the trusty 4×4

I am so excited to start our trip next weekend, I can hardly think of anything else. Ricky and I did some meal planning and shopping over the weekend, so we are probably 70% prepared. Lucky for us, the 4×4 we are renting (from Avis Safari Rental and through Reynolds Travel) comes with everything you need to survive an overland trip!

This vehicle is a Ford Ranger double cab, with a roof tent spacious enough for two people to sleep very comfortably. It has so many amazing features, I’m actually just going to quote directly from the pamphlet (highlighting my favourite features!):

• 5 minute setup • All-Terrain Tyres – re-inforced side wall • Internal convenience change room with clothing cupboards • Fully fitted kitchen with gas cooker, pantry and bar point – scullery with hot and cold water on demand • Shade awning • Shower cubicle – hot and cold water • Fridge and Freezer • 2 Chairs and a Table • Safari Linen and towels • 150W solar panel – 220V battery charger and input plug with electrical cord • Tool cupboard – recovery kit, barbeque set, bush tools and gas fire starter • Electric tyre pump with hose and pressure gauge • Fire Wood cupboard • Long range fuel tank

According to one review: “All Avis safari vehicles are eco-friendly and ideal for natural settings. The state of the art solar charging systems will ensure that your vehicle battery is fully charged at all times. In addition experienced and professional tour guides are available on request to assist you in planning your route and tours.”

We are so excited to have the support of the Avis team in this adventure, and I can’t wait to set up camp for the first time! After our trip I will post my review of the vehicle.
