Lions and rhinos and bush pigs – OH MY
In just about a month, my husband and I will set off on a new adventure: a two-week journey from Johannesburg through Botswana. I have never been to Botswana and consider this the opportunity of a lifetime!
Check out my newest posts on this journey:
- Botswana blog: the wildlife
- Botswana Blog: the trusty 4×4
- Botswana Blog: the country – what’s Botswana all about?
- The Botswana blog – getting prepared
We will be camping in our rental overland vehicle – a pickup truck that has been modified with a camping tent on top, a bar, kitchen and shower built in, and all the other essentials to get us across rugged and wild terrain. I’ll be documenting this experience daily.
Looking forward to views like this…
And maybe a few close wildlife encounters…
I’ll also be in the middle of a new life step – a memoir writing course. As an American transplant in South Africa, I’ve had some wild life (pun intended) experiences trying to adapt to a new country, culture and severe restrictions on my ability to (legally) work. Writing and starting my own business is now the most attractive option, so I’ve decided to kick myself into gear this year and take a class!
I’m sure my experiences in Botswana will provide a good amount of inspiration. There are certain to be numerous inevitable mishaps and blunders as we navigate foreign terrain. Driving a large 4×4 across sand and badly paved roads, sleeping in nature reserves and game parks, eating whatever we can find in local shops, taking some awesome photos of wildlife. We probably won’t have regular internet access – in fact we might not have internet at all; but I will write daily posts and load them when I’m able.
Please follow along on this adventure! I know it will be entertaining, challenging and humorous – and hopefully will inspire you to try something new and maybe a bit scary! To round this pitch out, here is one of my favourite wildlife shots from a recent trip to Pilanesberg:
